Sponsors for Camp
I am looking for families to sponsor a couple of mom’s and their daughters to go to Michigan Christian Youth Camp this summer.  The total cost for all 5 people to go is $593.  If you are willing to help with this cost, please get the money to me or Tim ASAP – earmarked MCYC.  I really appreciate your help.  These ladies and their daughters are from the Oscoda Church of Christ and just don’t have the means to do this on their own.  Your help is wonderful.

Basic Bible Study

Just Go!
Tomorrow before heading to Bible class we will meet in Oxford at the home of Renee (who recently lost her husband).  She needs us to do raking and wash some windows.  Please meet at 5:00 (or as soon as you can get there).  Even if you cannot work – it’s nice to have someone that can visit with the homeowner while others do the work…we would really appreciate if you could come no matter what! Contact us for the address.

FOR MISSION POSSIBLE
I know that it is really early…but you will make several trips to the grocery store before August 1-5 and I want you to be able to pick something up each time you go.  Our Children’s Ministry is collecting toiletry items for FISH and will be sorting and delivering them during MP.  Please begin bringing them in now so that we have a very large donation for this pantry in Oxford.  You may bring in items such as/but not limited to: soap, detergent, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, lotions, etc. There is a box under the table near the office door where you can put your items to donate.  Thank you so much for your support.

DIGG
Our next DIGG event will be a SURPRISE.  On May 28th (a Tuesday) we are meeting in the lobby at the Sanctuary in Rochester to surprise Ruth Elmer on her 90th birthday!  (don’t worry, she will receive a totally different copy of the TC than all of you).  Don’t tell!  We are going to head there and meet at 6:45pm in the main lobby and then we will all go down at one time to surprise her.  I need a little help from you ladies.  Can you bring some or one of the following items, Paper Plates, Cups, Fruit Punch, Napkins, Chocolate Birthday Cupcakes.   Let me know what you are able to bring.  This is going to be a fantastic evening of fun and surprise, please join us.

Pieces of my Heart
Psalm 119:9-16
How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.  I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.  I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.  Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.  With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes, as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.  I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

Lexi and I had an impromptu talk in the car yesterday about choosing good friends to surround yourself with always.  I can’t even remember how we started talking about it.  I guess lately it has been on my mind that Joel will be in the high school next year – and it feels like I am sending my kids straight into the battlefield when they walk in the high school.

Lexi was talking about some of the kids that she was so close with during middle school – those kids who have been in our home, at our table, or around a bonfire in our back yard.  Those sweet, young kids – who have now chosen a path that Lexi is not willing to take.

I have been thinking a lot about how God creates us to be these amazing, beautiful people…and then the world bombards us with all this STUFF that they think we should be.  Our society tells us what to wear, how to do our hair, how to measure success, how to measure friendship, how to love, etc.  And sooooo many times we stumble into this false perception of who we should be…and all the while, our Creator is standing with His arms open, saying, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened…I will give you rest.” Because if you are trying to live up to this ideal that the world is trying to get you to buy into – you are gonna grow weary.  There is no hope in that, there is false joy there, there are false relationships there. It’s exhausting.

And so I reminded Lexi that although, sometimes it seems harder, you must always choose Jesus.  In real life you might have to go to school or work or anywhere, do your job and get out….you must choose Jesus.  It’s so easy to get caught up in all the yucky craziness that others heap onto you –but the Father knows us better than we know ourselves – always choose Him.  She said, “Mom, I just choose to be close to the kids from church.”  Thank you, Lord, for Dessa and Jake and Leanne and Pete and Kelsey and so many more.  I pray for each one of our youth group kids – that they can stand strong together for the Lord.  Please encourage them, guide them, and pray for them as they face real battles every single day! Life is difficult – Choose the Lord!

As always, I love you guys. JB
